The South Bronx teacher who founded the Green Machine nonprofit, which builds urban gardens in schools around the city, is one of 10 finalists competing to win the $1M Global Teacher Prize. [DNAinfo]

East Gunhill Road will be getting a new Fine Fare supermarket, which is expected to reach completion in 2016. It is being developed by the East Gunhill Road Food LLC alongside the NYCIDA’s FRESH (Food Retail Expansion to Support Health) program to provide the Williamsbridge community with more food shopping options. The Bronx General Post Office has been given the green light for redevelopment. A portion of the post office will remain, but there are plans for retail, office, and restaurant space, possibly including a rooftop beer garden. [Curbed NY]
