Where there’s beer, there’s coffee? Maybe not, but we tend to enjoy them in that order. Following the arrival of three craft breweries in The Bronx during the past two years, there has also been an increase in new coffee shops and cafes opening their doors for the first time uptown. But, where some might smell dark roasts, others may see signs of gentrification in latte art. Regardless of how you like your coffee (or your community development), now that the temperatures are falling, take a look at the spaces where you can wrap your hands around a cup, warm up in cool modernist decor, and take advantage of all the free wifi while you decide.

Prince Coffee House

It’s hard to imagine there was anything missing from Arthur Ave, but the street recently named one of the greatest in America got a new coffee shop with an extensive menu of international brews like Viennese, Thai, and Turkish. The Devolli Corporation’s first coffee house outside of Kosovo also offers small, batch pastries baked daily — featuring seasonal tastes like pumpkin for fall — with plans to add food to the menu.

XM Cafe with Morris Perk

You can satisfy your appetite for art or a curry chicken salad sandwich, or both, in one place since The Bronx Museum opened XM Cafe on its main floor. The museum cafe got its name from the winning selection of a contest launched last summer by museum staffers which was open to community members. And it is still a community effort as the cafe’s brews are supplied by the borough’s traveling coffee shop Morris Perk and The Bronx Brewery.
