Even though spring officially starts this Friday, March 20th, it’s still too cold to celebrate with any regular seasonal outings like a picnic in the park or even outdoor dining at your favorite eatery. Fortunately, you don’t need to leave the house to enjoy a new spring menu, and we have the perfect Bronx recipe pairing to try.
The Bronx Bomber sandwich via Seattle Pi combines Genoa salami and pastrami with a list of other flavorful ingredients like horseradish and hot peppers. Great, but will be even better with the light, citrusy taste of a Bronx cocktail that combines gin, orange juice and sweet vermouth.
Here’s how to make both.
Bronx Bomber Sandwich
2 large slices of pumpernickel bread
6 thin slices of Genoa salami
4 slices of pastrami
2 slices of Swiss cheese
8 – 10 hot pepper rings
thick smear of cream cheese
Start the sandwich with the first slice of pumpernickel bread top with some horseradish sauce.
From bottom to top, layer the Genoa salami, pastrami, Swiss cheese, and the hot pepper rings.
Spread the second slice of pumpernickel with a thick layer of cream cheese and place on top of the Bronx Bomber Sandwich.
1 ounce gin
2 ounce orange juice
1/2 ounce sweet and dry vermouth
In a cocktail shaker, combine 1 ounce gin, 2 ounces orange juice and 1/2 ounce each sweet and dry vermouth. Shake with ice for 30 seconds, then strain into a cocktail glass; garnish with an orange twist.
