In its 6th year, Bronx Week celebrates the cultural richness, exemplary community members, and latest accomplishments of the borough. This Monday, April 2 the office of the borough president held a “Best of the Bronx” press event to announce Bronx Week 2016 inside the famous Arthur Avenue Retail Market.

Bronx Week 2016 honorees and 2016 Bronx Walk of Fame inductees actor Vincent Pastore of The Sopranos and Ballet Hispanico artistic director Eduardo Vilaro hosted the gathering.

Lunch consisted of a delicious Italian spread by Mike’s Deli. We couldn’t get enough of the small bites that were like mini edible ads for the fresh, authentic Italian ingredients available right there in the market.

After addressing attendees—taking care to highlight some recent accomplishments, like a high spike in job creation—Bronx borough president Ruben Diaz Jr went from behind the podium with honoree Eduardo Vilaro to learn how to make fresh mozzarella behind Mike’s Deli counter. The tutorial was a real treat for anyone who stuck around, especially since we got to sample the finished product.
