News Roundup: Gun Hill Brewing Canning It, Bx NeON Nutrition Opens

“For those who’ve missed it, [Gun Hill Brewing] is happy to announce that we intend to start canning some of our beer. Our plan is to can Void of Light first, followed shortly thereafter with the Gold and IPA. In order for us to start canning, however, we need to bring in a new fermentation tank so that we do not disrupt our regular production schedule. As such, we are running a kickstarter-esque campaign to try to raise money to bring in this tank by the end of August to begin canning in September.” To spread the word or donate click here. SoBro’s NeON Nutrition Kitchen celebrated it’s grand opening this Monday, July 13, 2015. The Neighborhood Opportunity Network Kitchen supplies the families of those on probation with nutritious, healthy foods. NeON will also offer nutrition education through seminars and food demonstrations by NYC’s top chefs. The program provides an alternative to soup kitchens and food pantries which often carry stigmas for many. SPECIAL INTEREST: A small protest outside of the old Bronx Courthouse at 878 Brook Ave, during the art opening of No Longer Empty’s “When We Cut Into The Past The Future Leaks Out” exhibit, left attendees clutching their cups of wine uncomfortably back in April. The protest addressed issues of gentrification, spurred by underlying real estate agendas arising from the partnership of No Longer Empty and brokers. It was visible in the art crowd which included little to no Bronxites. It has many upset and fearful for the boroughs future. Now the conversation continues as a recently published article analyzes the events surrounding the art show. [Hyperallergic]
