MUTZ is giving foodies hearty, homestyle Italian food as an option in a Throggs Neck shopping center dotted with familiar fast food chains.

The short menu at MUTZ Fast. Fresh. Italian, which opened in April at 815 Hutchinson River Parkway, is only made up of simplified, best-selling Italian classics, but there was consideration behind it. “When menus are too large it gets complicated for employees and customers”, co-owner, Jessica Sansotta explained during our visit. For the restaurant, owned by her and her husband Joseph Sansotta, who learned to cook from his mom, that means freshly-made pasta bowls, personal pies, and hot subs using family recipes.



The MUTZ casarecce pasta is made in-house daily and the sub breads are made specially for them on Arthur Avenue. Once you’ve picked a base, it’s time to top it.



Any of the 3 can be topped with a choice of meatballs, chicken parm, eggplant parm, sausage and peppers, or braciole (pictured on the pizza above)—lean, thin beef cutlets slow braised for hours in the owners’ family gravy made from tomato sauce. We highly recommend!



And, since it’s their namesake, any and everything can (and should) be finished with a topping of MUTZ aka mozzarella before going in their 1000 degree oven!
