A new dining hall next to Bruckner Expressway is planned for The Bronx. Bronx-based developer and advocate Majora Carter—who is also responsible for Boogie Down Grind Cafe Powered by StartUp Box (formerly known as Birch Coffee Powered by StartUp Box)—is partnering with Slayton Ventures to renovate an old 4,500-square-foot Amtrak railway station on Hunts Point Ave into an affordable, multi-vendor dining destination. Development is expected to start this summer and conclude in the fall. Another new food location was planned north of the upcoming food court, however, no developments have started on it as of yet. Food producer Sabra Dipping Company, LLC is partnering with The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) to bring “Wellness Wednesdays” to The Bronx in 2018. The partnership will give Bronx students, teachers, and families free access to hands-on gardening, nutrition education, cooking demos, and health screenings among other things at NYBG. “Wellness Wednesdays” is part of Sabra’s larger initiative “Plants with a Purpose” which aims to empower communities in food desserts through local organizations. Another food retailer is increasing its presence in The Bronx as Snap Dog introduces a hot dog cart outside of Yankee Stadium. The vendor will be stationed at 850 River Ave during every home game because you can’t have baseball without hot dogs. [Snap Dog]
