Gun Hill Brewery and Port Morris Distillery are partnering on a new restaurant called Gun Hill Tavern, which will be located next door to the distillery at 780 E. 133rd St. in the South Bronx. The brewery’s managing partner Dave Lopez said they are opening the tavern to have a presence in the South Bronx following residential real estate developments that they expect to make the area more popular. Gun Hill Tavern, in addition to 14 Gun Hill beers, will serve upscale pub food, including burgers, tacos, and salads. It is scheduled to open November 4.  [DNA Info]

A new $20 million, 120,000-square-foot food facility will be built in Hunts Point. The Greenmarket Regional Food Hub is apart of the New York State Grown & Certified program launched by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The program aims to increase New Yorkers’ access to fresh produce and support local farms. The hub will be used by GrowNYC’s Greenmarket Co. program. [GrownNYC]

At the end of this summer, The Bronx Hot Sauce was invited to JetBlue Airlines’ BlueBud business-mentoring program which partners with local, small, food businesses. The program teaches them about social responsibility, sustainability, and marketing, as well as adapting their recipes for in-flight serving. The Bronx Hot Sauce is used in the JetBlue University cafeteria and a pop-up store in JFK’s Terminal 5. [Takepart]

Two restaurant chains are opening in The Bronx. The Bronx Grill on East Tremont closed earlier this month, and will reopen next spring as a Golden Corral. The Bronx Grill owners applied for the all-you-can-eat, American, buffet-style franchise in 2014. It will be Golden Corral’s first New York City location. [Bronx News 12]  Chipotle Mexican Grill is also opening a new location uptown. The borough’s fourth Chipotle, and first in the South Bronx, will be located at 260 E 161 Street, across from The Bronx Country Hall of Justice. It is scheduled to open before the end of the year.
